Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) was one of the founders of the Impressionist movement. Born into a wealthy family, she was given traditional art lessons of painting and drawing as part of her training to be a cultured woman. She decided to become a full-time artist, which was very unusual for a woman at that time.

Morisot became most known for her landscapes and paintings of women and children. She and Mary Cassatt  are two of the most famous women artists of the 1800's.
