
"This
is interesting," says Carmine. "These sketches show a modern airplane
wing alongside Leonardo's bird-style wing. At the bottom is a diagram
of an airfoilthe shape that makes airplanes fly!
I think the Wright Brothers invented it in 1903though they
were following in the footsteps of Leonardo and other Renaissance
scientists. After all, before the Renaissance, nobody gave much thought
to scientific inquiry and discovery!

"Leonardo never did invent a successful flying machine. But this airfoil would really give him something to think about! I wonder what inventions he could come up with after seeing this sketch!
